Vibrant Job Fair Gives Tyson Workers and Job Seekers a Fresh Start

The doors will be open, the businesses will be hiring, and the opportunities will be waiting.

The American Job Center will host a job fair at Vibrant Arena on Wednesday, September 2, from 12PM to 4 p.m.

The event is OPEN TO EVERYONE looking for a job — but it comes at an especially important time for workers affected by the Tyson Foods layoffs in Joslin, Illinois.

Jobs Close to Home — and Beyond

Job seekers will find a wide range of opportunities at the fair, including positions with companies from throughout the Quad Cities and surrounding region.

There will also be companies attending from outside the area, giving workers another option: relocation. Some businesses are offering relocation bonuses to help qualified workers make the move to a new community and a new job.

For someone who has spent years working in food production, manufacturing or a similar industry, those opportunities may be a particularly good fit.

The fair will feature many food-processing and meat-packing jobs, along with other positions in a variety of industries. Many offer good wages and strong benefits.

In other words, this isn’t simply a place to drop off a résumé and hope for a phone call. It’s an opportunity to meet the people doing the hiring, ask questions, learn what jobs are available and find out what it would take to get started.

Tyson Workers Are Encouraged to Attend

Workers displaced by the Tyson closure should make plans to attend.

The skills developed in a food-processing operation don’t disappear when the plant closes. Production experience, equipment operation, quality control, safety experience, teamwork and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment are valuable skills that many businesses need.

And job seekers shouldn’t assume that they have to start over.

A new job could be right here in the Quad Cities. It could be in another part of Illinois or Iowa. Or, for someone willing to relocate, it could lead to an opportunity somewhere entirely new — with a company willing to help pay the cost of getting there.

Everyone Is Welcome

While Tyson workers are a major focus of this event, the job fair is open to anyone looking for work.

If you’re unemployed, looking for a better opportunity, interested in changing careers or simply curious about what’s available, you’re invited.

Bring your résumé if you have one. Come prepared to talk about your experience and the kind of work you’re looking for. Most importantly, come ready to explore your options.

For Tyson workers and other job seekers across the Quad Cities, September 2 could be the beginning of the next chapter. Sometimes the next opportunity isn’t as far away as you think. And sometimes, it’s just a few conversations away.
