Our resource center is open 8:30 a.m.—5:00 p.m. Monday—Friday to provide the following services:

  • Free access to computers and the internet for resume writing, employment information and job searching.
  • Accessibility equipment for individuals with impairments.
  • Community referrals, and available literature on community assistance and training programs.
  • Printers, fax and telephone to pursue finding a job.
  • Assistance with applying for positions, labor market information and career exploration.

Your resume will showcase your skills, abilities and credentials in a professional manner. The American Job Center staff can walk you through the steps at completing a quality resume.

Finding a job is a job! The best way for entering into you employment search is knowing the market where you will work and understand the jobs you will be applying for. The American Job Center has staff that can assist you with getting labor market information to determine high demand occupations, understand hiring trends and developing a job search strategy.

Once you have created or updated your resume and completed your labor market research, you are ready to start your job search.

Quick Tips:

  1. Be mindful of the jobs you are applying for. Don't just apply to everything.

  2. Apply for not only jobs you are qualified for but also jobs you are under-qualified for. If you don't check every box but believe you would be a good fit for the job, let the employer decide if they will be willing to training you on what you don't know.

  3. Keep track of the positions you apply for. Don't just write down the day and time you applied but keep information about the position and the company.

  4. Make sure you have an appropriate email address and voicemail message and clear out your voicemail inbox.

  5. Be organized and prepared to get phone or in-person interviews without forewarning. You always answer your phone professionally and have your references informed.

There is no cost for receiving services from the American Job Center.
Is the American Job Center the same as IDES Unemployment office?
IDES is a partner in the American Job Center and has staff located in the same office, that are able to assist with Employment Services, Illinois Job Link, and some OKTA login issues at this time.
Do I need to make an appointment?
No appointments necessary, walk-ins welcome.
