Through the Workforce Innovation & Opportunity Act (WIOA) the American Job Center is able to award scholarships for training for in-demand occupations. These trainings are in areas including healthcare, manufacturing, truck driving, clerical, information technology and many more. Training can be for up to 2 years worth of education.

What does a WIOA Scholarship pay for?

Tuition, Books, Fees, Uniforms, Supplies, Tools, Equipment, Testing, Certifications, Licenses

Steps to Receiving a Scholarship

Step One

Complete the Intake Form


Step Two

Once the intake form is submitted an application and application checklist will be emailed to you.

Step Three

Attend the Required Information Session

Step Four

When steps 1—4 are completed, your information will be given to a Career Planner for your interview. After the interview, your application and request will be evaluated and considered by the Training Panel. If you are approved you will be contacted by a Career Planner. If not found suitable for the program, then you will receive a letter. The panel only meets once a week, so length of time for this determination is based on when the panel meets.

Right to Work in the U.S. One of the following: U.S. Birth Certificate, U.S. Passport (Expired or Unexpired), Social Security Card, Naturalization Certificate, Baptismal Certificate, Certification of Birth Abroad issue by the Dept. of State, Alien Registration Card indicating Right to Work, DD-214, Permanent Resident Card, REAL ID, Unexpired Temporary Resident Card, Acceptable Documentation for INS
Proof of Current Address Envelope or bill with name and current address or State issued ID and/or Driver's License

Training FAQ

Who is eligible for scholarships?
There are many different ways to be eligible for a scholarship. WIOA authorizes money for Adults, Dislocated Workers and Youth. To find out if you are eligible, complete the intake form or contact our office.
How much money can I get in a scholarship?
WIOA’s funding is determined by the type and length of program approved.
Can I start classes before I get approved for a scholarship?
Yes you can but the WIOA scholarships can only pay for future costs, not current or prior expenses.
When should I apply?
I would apply at least 60 days prior to the start of your training or new term.
